The Artist in Residence Program at Studio34 is a 6-month residency for dance organizations and individual teaching artists rooted in Chattanooga. Two artists are selected each cycle (July-December, January-June), each holding one dedicated weekday evening, Wednesday or Thursday, at Studio34.

 

This is both a creation residency and a community-building residency. Residents develop an original work of 25 to 60 minutes over the course of the cycle while teaching a weekly public class. The teaching and the making are not separate. What you bring into the room on class night can directly fuel the work you're building in rehearsal.

To be considered, applicants must:

• Have an active, meaningful connection to Chattanooga

• Offer programming that adds to what Studio34 already offers on Monday and Tuesday nights in style, form, or community served

• Have the realistic capacity to sustain a weekly recurring public class for six months

• Understand and share Studio34's classroom philosophy of community first and student first

• Be in line with The Pop-up Project’s values and mission

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Be eligible to complete a W-9 (U.S. persons) or W-8BEN (non-U.S. persons) for tax reporting purposes

• Not be a current salaried TPUP employee, board member, or immediate family member of a TPUP employee or board member

• Participate in TPUP data collection process determined at a later time

 

Previously granted Residents are eligible to re-apply after sitting out for one, 6 month cycle directly following their previously accepted Residency.

 

Studio34 and The Pop-up Project welcome applications from artists of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, national origins, religions, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
